Tamta, Jonida Maliqi, Il Volo and more – Eurovision News – 23 December 2018

It’s 23 December 2018 Sunday, and here are the latest news from Eurovision.

Albania is the first country to choose their song for next year’s contest which will be in Tel Aviv. Jonida Maliqi with her song Ktheju tokës became the country’s Eurovision representative by winning Festivali i Këngës which is an annual song contest in Albania.

Cyprus has chosen their singer for Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Tamta, who is one of the best voices in Greece, will represent the country in Tel Aviv. Tamta is a Georgian born Greek singer and she will be singing the song named “Replay”.

The song which will be released on a later date, is written by Alex Papaconstantinou, who is professionally known as Alex P. Given that Alex P is the composer of last year’s second placed song “Fuego”, we can expect that Cyprus will again be in it, to win it.

In addition to Fuego, Alex P. also co-written Sarbel’s ”Yassou Maria” in 2007, Aysel & Arash’s “Always” in 2009, and Ivi Adamou’s “La La Love” in 2012.

Next, we have some big news from Italy. Il Volo, who finished 3rd in the 2015 Eurovision song contest, will participate in the annual Sanremo song contest in early February. The winner of Sanremo competition is given the opportunity to represent Italy at Eurovision.

In order to choose the song that will compete in Eurovision, Switzerland will get the help of a jury of 21 people consisting of international experts. Among these 21 people is Ovi, who along with Paula Seling, represented Romania twice in 2010 and 2014, and Ruth Lorenzo who represented Spain in 2014.

France and Spain also announced their candidates and songs that will compete for a place in Eurovision. Both countries will make their final decisions in early 2019.

… and finally Australian broadcaster SBS announced three more names who will compete in their national final: Courtney Act (Australian Idol, RuPaul’s Drag Race), Aydan (The Voice Australia), and 16-year-old singer and composer Leea Nanos. Australia’s national final will be on 9 February 2019.

The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Tel Aviv on 14, 16 and 18 May and as details get revealed, we will be sharing our opinions here. Thanks for watching!
