In this episode, we will take a quick look at the highest grossing movies of all time.
2019 will be just another year that we may see some big budget movies making it into this list. Before this list is changed again in a few months time, we wanted to bring you the current highest grossing movies of all time, as of January 2019.
Number 10 on the list, is the last film of the Harry Potter franchise: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows / Part 2. The movie starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson came out in 2011. (1 billion 341 million dollars.)
Number 9, is a film from 2018, Black Panther. Marvel expanded the adventure to Africa by introducing Wakanda, the most developed fictional country in the world. (1 billion 346 million dollars.)
Number 8, is the 2015 Marvel hit, Avengers: Age of Ultron. The second movie in the franchise had Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson in the title roles. 1 billion 405 million dolars)
At number 7, we see “Furious 7” from 2015. There is no doubt that Paul Walker’s unfortunate early death contributed to this film’s box-office success. The movie made 1 billion 516 million dollars.
Number 6 on the list, is “The Avengers“, the movie that started it all for Marvel’s most popular franchise in 2012. (1 billion 518 million dollars)
At number 5, is Jurassic World from 2015. The movie starring Chris Pratt ve Bryce Dallas Howard, was Jurassic Park’s return to the big screen after a long break. (1 billion 671 million dollars).
Number 4 on the list, is another Marvel movie: Avengers: Infinity War. This film literally invaded the movie theatres in 2018. The kind of hype it built for the next instalment is at never before seen levels, and that’s why we are pretty sure this list will look different next year. (2 billion 048 million dollars)
Number 3, is the 7th movie of the Star Wars franchise: Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The 2015 movie looked and felt more like the original trilogy and this was well received at the box office. (2 billion 068 million dollars).
At number 2, is James Cameron’s epic love and disaster film, Titanic. The movie managed to stay at the top of this list for 12 years, after being released in 1997. (2 billion 186 million dollars).
And finally, the highest grossing film of all time is: Avatar. James Cameron can only be beaten by James Cameron. If this movie’s success is not a proof that James Cameron found a bug in the system, then what is. It looks, as if Avatar is going to stay at the top of this list until James Cameron makes another movie. (2 billion 787 million dollars)
Before we end our video, we should add that, if the numbers were adjusted for inflation, the results would have been totally different. It is obvious that the unadjusted list, heavily favors newer films. Here is how the list would have looked like, had the numbers been adjusted for inflation:
1 Gone with the Wind $3,440,000,000 1939
2 Avatar $3,020,000,000 2009
3 Star Wars $2,825,000,000 1977
4 Titanic $2,516,000,000 1997
